On behalf of the staff and Board of Trustees of the Historical Society of the New York Courts, we denounce the increasing instances of bias, violence and hate crimes toward Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and individuals of Asian descent in New York and in the nation. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are concerned with the real and devastating implications of hateful anti-Asian rhetoric and acts of violence we are witnessing. We recognize that anti-Asian prejudice is one form of systemic bias that continues to operate in our country–a stark reminder that old stereotypes and tropes often re-emerge in times of crisis. We stand in solidarity with members of our community who are experiencing this and other forms of racism and bias.
