New York State Courthouses – Featured content

Since this nation began, courthouses have been reflections of how we see ourselves as a people and a democracy. They have been lovingly, in some cases lavishly, built with reverence for the symbols they are. We focus here on courthouses of New York State built for its towns and village, counties, and the State. We attempt to document the history, architecture, and beauty of the courthouse building and the art it displays inside and out. In our look at these courthouses, we will also focus on the image of Lady Justice which adorns so many of these buildings.

This is a growing and developing undertaking. We give our special thanks to Teodors Ermansons, court photographer, who is responsible for many of the images appearing on this site.
