William Henry Shankland served in 1849, 1857. Born in Cherry Valley, Otsego, County, N.Y., Feb. 29, 1804. Admitted to practice, 1827. District attorney, Cortland County, 1836-1842. Appointed to state supreme court, 1847, elected 1849. Died, Jan. 3, 1883. With thanks to Cathy A. Barber, Cortland County historian, and Mary Ann Kane, Cortland County Historical Society. His portrait is hanging in the New York Court of Appeals Courtroom, south wall.
