Philo Gridley

1796-1864

Philo Gridley served in 1852. Born Sep. 16, 1796, in Paris, Oneida County, N.Y. Hamilton College graduate, 1816. District attorney of Madison County, 1829-1837. Vice chancellor, Fifth Circuit, 1838. State supreme court justice, 1847-1853. Died Aug. 16, 1864. See Obituary, The New York Times, Aug. 19, 1864. His portrait is hanging in the Court of Appeals courtroom, east wall.
