Charles Russell Ingalls served 1870. Born in Greenwich, Washington County, N.Y., Sep. 14, 1819. His ancestors settled in Lynn, Mass., in 1629. Admitted to supreme court and court of chancery (1844). Member of assembly, 1853. Moved to Troy, N.Y., in 1860 and resided there. Elected to state supreme court, third judicial district, 1863, and again in 1871. Appointed to supreme court, general term, first department (New York City). Served as supreme court justice 26 years, retiring at the 70-year age limit. Delegate, National Democratic Convention (1860). As board member, elected but declined presidency of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Died May 28, 1908. For his poetic side, see 20 Alb LJ 82 (1884).
