New Society Executive Director Allison M. Morey

The Historical Society of the New York Courts has named Allison M. Morey as its new Executive Director. The unanimous vote was cast at the Society’s biannual meeting of the Board of Trustees on September 24, 2024 and it’s effective immediately.

Allison Morey was elevated from her previous role as Deputy Director at the Society and succeeds Marilyn Marcus. Ms. Morey is tasked with leading and managing the legal history organization’s programs, staff, finances, membership, fundraising, and board liaisons and committees, among many other day-to-day operations. Ms. Morey brings eight years of experience working at the Society, having been hired in 2016 as Programs Director, and promoted to Deputy Director in 2023. She has a master’s degree of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto, Canada, where developed projects and exhibits with local non-profit organizations. Ms. Morey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Minors in Arts Management and Studio Arts Photography from the University of Wisconsin.

“I am deeply honored that the Board of Trustees selected me to be Executive Director of this great organization. The Society’s mission is more critical than ever as our understanding of legal history, the constitution, and what they mean continues to rapidly evolve. I will use my wealth of experience both with my past eight years at the Society and more broadly in the non-profit field to further engage with our members, the legal profession, educators, and the general public about these important topics and bring our programming into a new era.”

“This was one of the easiest decisions we’ve ever made as an organization. Allison is a great choice to lead the Society into the future as a young and vibrant professional, having worked closely with all of our board members and stake holders for over eight years in her previous roles. We eagerly embrace this new chapter of the Society.”

Hon. Jonathan Lippman, President of the Historical Society of the New York Courts, Of Counsel at Latham & Watkins LLP, and Former Chief Judge of New York

“I’ve worked with Allison for many years now, and her work and dedication to our organization is both impressive and admirable. We’re confident Allison’s multifaceted skills will help us further our mission and goals, especially when the Rule of Law and democracy in general are of such importance in today’s world.”
