PROGRAM

This program examined Native American courts in NYS, using the Oneida Indian Nation Court as a case study. It included a discussion on Native American courts from the perspective of Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter; a look at the basic Indian laws governing tribal courts and tribal court jurisdiction; and a judicial panel discussion on the interaction between the tribal courts and NYS courts. The judicial panel included the Hon. Robert G. Hurlbutt, Hon. Marcy L. Kahn and Hon. Mark A. Montour. A short video featuring Hon. Richard D. Simons, Retired Judge, Oneida Indian Nation Court, was part of the program . Dancers from the Oneida Indian Nation performed a welcome dance in authentic dress.
