Author, historian and Professor John Wood Sweet will present on his book The Sewing Girl’s Tale about the true-life story of Lanah Sawyer, a young woman who was raped in the 1790s. She sued, and she won. Following this presentation, a panel that will include Roberta A. Kaplan, Esq., Prof. Kate Mogulescu, Hon. Michelle Weber, and Susan Harper, Esq., moderator, will discuss how far the law has come since Lanah’s case, and what remains to be done. Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division, First Department Dianne T. Renwick will provide opening remarks.
