Justice Gabriel M. Krausman was educated at Brooklyn College and New York University, earning a B.S. degree with honors in 1957. In 1959, he graduated first in his class from New York Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review. Krausman was admitted to the bar in 1960, and was engaged in the private practice of law until 1969. He then held the position of law secretary to Justices Harlan Brownstein and Frank Vaccaro of the Supreme Court for Kings County from 1969 until 1979.
In 1979, Krausman was elected as a Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York. Four years later he joined the Supreme Court for the Second Judicial District. In 1993, Governor Mario Cuomo designated him as an Associate Justice for the Appellate Division, Second Department. Following his retirement from the bench in 2007, Krausman has worked as a mediator and arbitrator with National Arbitration and Mediation, his specializations including trial practice and appellate procedure.
He has been a frequent lecturer and in 2005 published The Krausman Report, a revision of the rules for the admission and discipline of attorneys in the Second Department.
Krausman is a veteran of the Korean War.
