Charles F. Brown was born in Newburgh (Orange County), N.Y. Graduated Yale University, 1866; district attorney, Orange County. County judge, 1878; State supreme court justice, 1882. Secretary, Democratic State Committee, 1880-1882. Presiding justice General Term, Second Department, 1894-95; First presiding justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department, 1896. Died, Jun. 19, 1929, at age 84 (New York Times obituary, Jun. 20, 1929, p. 19). His portrait is hanging in the Attorneys’ Lounge at Court of Appeals Hall.
