Growing Racial Disparities in Voter Turnout, 2008-2022

The gap in voter participation between Black and white Americans decreased following the civil rights revolution of the 1960s. Unfortunately, the Brennan Center’s research shows that for more than a decade, this trend has been reversing. This report uses data to which few previous researchers have had access to document the racial turnout gap in the 21st century.
