Henry Hogeboom

1808-1872

Henry Hogeboom served in 1864. Born in Columbia County, N.Y., in 1808. Yale College graduate, 1827. Columbia County master in chancery and county judge (1831). Elected to state legislature in 1839 and to state supreme court in 1857 and 1865. Presided over the 1868 trial of General George Cole, who had been indicted for the murder of Luther Harris Hiscock. Died Sep. 12, 1872, in Hudson, N.Y. See 1 McAdam, History of the Bench and Bar of New York, New York History Co. (1897), p. 360. Obituary, The New York Times, Sep. 13, 1872, said he was regarded as the most eminent jurist on New York’s supreme court.
