Justice John P. Colangelo was appointed to the Appellate Division, Third Department effective November 6, 2019. He graduated from Brown University and New York University School of Law. Justice Colangelo was admitted to the New York Bar in 1978, worked in private practice from 1978 to 2002 and served as a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness, First Department. He began his judicial career in 2002 when he was appointed to the New Rochelle City Court. He was elected to Westchester County Court in 2009 and to Supreme Court for the Ninth Judicial District in 2013. Justice Colangelo is an officer of the Association of Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Effective June 20, 2022, Justice Colangelo resigned from the Third Department to return to the trial bench in the Ninth Judicial District.
