Justice Fred T. Santucci earned degrees from Adelphi College in 1955 and New York Law School in 1957. He then practiced law and held positions including Associate Counsel to the State Joint Legislative Committee on Social Services and Chief Counsel to the State Constitutional Convention, Joint Legislative Committee on Tourism, Commerce and Economic Development.
In 1974, Santucci was elected to the New York City Civil Court, where he served as Co-Chairman of the Civil Court Committee on Continuing Legal Education and Coordinator of the Housing Court. He served on the Civil Court until 1978. Santucci was elected to the Supreme Court for the Eleventh Judicial District in 1979, where he was Presiding Justice of the Medical Malpractice Part. He was designated to the Appellate Term in 1988 and to the Appellate Division, Second Department in 1992. In 2010, Justice Santucci retired from the bench, having reached the mandatory retirement age of 70.
He became the Executive Director for the Committee on Character and Fitness for the Appellate Division, Second Department in January 2011. Additionally, he was an adjunct professor of law at St. John’s University School of Law beginning in 1997.
